ACET has three categories of members, namely individual members, member firms, and affiliate members. However, to be a member, there are several qualifications and requirements that an engineer or a firm should meet, and these are;
Individual Members
- S/He should be in practice as a Consulting Engineer either individually or as a bonafide partner in or bonafide director of or Consultant to or as a Resident Director of a firm of consulting engineers
- S/He should be registered as a Consulting Engineer with the Engineers' Registration Board of Tanzania
- S/He should be in practice as a Consulting Engineer for not less than three years in another country in which the applicant is a member of an association of consulting engineers which is a member of FIDIC, and registered by the Engineers Registration Board in the category of Consulting Engineer.
Member Firms
- A local consulting engineering firm may apply for ACET membership upon registration with the Engineers Registration Board
- A local consulting engineering firm may apply for ACET membership if at least one of its directors, partners, or proprietor is a member of the Association of Consulting Engineers Tanzania
- A local consulting engineering firm may apply for ACET membership if the firm is registered officially with the Registrar of Companies and possesses a valid business license
- A foreign consulting engineering firm operating in Tanzania may apply for membership if it shall have established an office and carried out consulting engineering practice in Tanzania for at least three years and is a member of an Association of Consulting Engineers affiliated to FIDIC in its country of origin.
- A foreign consulting engineering firm operating in Tanzania may apply for membership if it has posted an Engineer resident in Tanzania who in the opinion of the Council is professionally qualified as a Consulting Engineer and qualifies as an individual Affiliate or Associate member of the Association of Consulting Engineers Tanzania
- A foreign consulting engineering firm operating in Tanzania may apply for membership if the firm is registered officially with the Registrar of Companies, Engineers Registration Board, and possess a valid business license
Affiliate Members
- An Engineer may be admitted as an Individual Affiliate Member if he is a resident and is engaged in the consulting engineering practice in Tanzania
- An Engineer may be admitted as an Individual Affiliate Member if he qualifies for membership of the association in all respects except that he is not a partner, consultant, or director in a firm of Consulting Engineers at the date of nomination and is employed by a firm of which at least one bonafide partner or director is a member of the association, and has held a senior executive, managerial or technical position in that firm for not less than three years
- A foreign firm of Consulting Engineers may be admitted as an Affiliate Firm Member if the firm is not resident but has been operating a business of consulting engineering work in Tanzania provided that the said firm is a member of an Association of Consulting Engineers which is affiliated to FIDIC.
